Right now, members of Congress and President Obama are coming up with ways to make stealth cuts to Social Security and Medicare as part of the deal to reduce the debt.

Two proposed cuts in particular need to receive special attention in the press: The Catfood Commission II (AKA Super Congress) and the Chained-CPI. The former creates a 12-person bipartisan commission tasked with cutting safety net programs and the latter pays less in Social Security to retirees each year by reducing their cost of living adjustment. Both represent sweeping benefit cuts that put current retirees, the poor and disabled at incredible risk.
