Tell Your Representatives:
Cut Benefits and I Won't Support You

At tonight's State of the Union address, the president will likely touch on the social safety net and the need for a "grand bargain" to reduce the deficit. While we were able to push the president away from reducing medicare benefits for the elderly, it appears we have more work to do to communicate that Chained-CPI -- which steadily reduces your earned Social Security benefits as you age -- is unacceptable, too.

As our elected representatives listen to tonight's speech, we want them to remember their constituents want to expand, not cut, benefits from these programs.

Call your senators and member of congress to oppose any plan that cuts Social Security benefits:

Sample script:

Hello, my name is ____{name}____ and I'm calling today to let ____{Offical's name}____ know that I will not support him/her if she facilitates any fiscal cliff deal that includes cuts to Social Security benefits.

The President will undoubtedly touch on deficit reduction in his State of the Union address. The White House says using Chained-CPI to calculate cost of living adjustment payments for Social Security is still on the table. This is unacceptable. While the president speaks tonight, I want ___{name}___ to remember that by supporting any deal that cuts Social Security benefits, he/she will forfeit my support.

Thank you for your time.
