Say No to Ray Kelly for DHS Secretary

A federal judge in New York just ruled that Stop and Frisk - NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly's signature program - violates the 4th and 14th amendments to the Constitution. So, why is the president still even considering him for a promotion?

With Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano leaving at the end of the month, we expect the White House won't leave the post vacant for much longer. It's up to us tell the Senate committee members charged with confirming the next secretary of Homeland Security that Ray Kelly and his history of racist and unconstitutional law enforcement is not fit for the job.

Can you call members of the Senate Homeland Security & Government Affairs Committee and tell them you oppose Ray Kelly for the next DHS secretary?

Sample script:

Hello, my name is ____{name}____ and I'm calling today regarding the nomination and confirmation of the next Homeland Security Secretary.

With Janet Napolitano's departure imminent, the only name being seriously floated right now is New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Kelly's legacy as New York City police commissioner is littered with civil rights abuses and discriminatory policies. Stop and Fisk, his signature law enforcement policy, was just declared unconstitutional by a federal judge.

He should not be elevated to such a powerful position within the federal government. As a member of the Homeland Security committee I ask that ____{Sen. Name}____ forcefully oppose Kelly for this position and communicate this opposition to President Obama before he makes a nomination.

NOTE: Please call members of the committee even if you are not one of their constituents. This is an issue that effects all Americans and your state is irrelevant to your support for protecting Americans civil liberties and opposing Ray Kelly's discriminatory policies.
