Tell Your Reps: Demand a Vote on ENDA

The Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) has passed in the U.S. Senate.

The bill moves to the House where Speaker John Boehner has already said he won't bring it up for a vote. We're organizing calls to every House member, telling them to demand a vote on ENDA.

But if Boehner refuses to budge, President Obama has (and always has had) the ability to outlaw discrimination on his own by issuing an executive order protecting LGBT employees of federal contractors. We're also calling the White House, demanding the president sign this order immediately

Sample script for Representative:

Hello, my name is ___{name}___ and I'm calling today to ask that my representative, ___{Rep's name}___, demand a vote on the Employee Non Discrimination Act.

The Senate has already passed this bill with overwhelming bipartisan support. Federal law already prohibits discrimination based on race, color, sex, nationality, religion, age or disability. It's unacceptable that this list does not include sexual orientation and gender identity.

I hope that ___{Rep's name}___ demand this important bill receive a vote.

Sample script for White House:

Hello, my name is ___{name}___ and I'm calling today to ask that President Obama sign an executive order protecting LGBT employees of federal contractors.

The Senate just passed the Employee Non-Discrimination Act with overwhelming bipartisan report. Unfortunately, Speaker Boehner is unlikely to bring this bill up for a vote in the house. The president has always had the power to sign an executive order and extend these protections to thousands of LGBT workers.

The president should stop waiting on our broken legislative process and sign this order.
